The aims of the research are to help students to improve their ability to do the GCSE examination
In fact, teaching and learning a language is a complex and long process as anyone who has tried will agree. One of the most important things is practising English themselves. In classroom, everyone knows you are a student and mistakes are allowed, but they should do extra exercise after school at home to improve their language.
In this writing, I would like to recommend more practical ways of practising exercises after learning from class
The purpose of language practice is to give students an opportunity to work themselves and understand well how to use subjects and verb agreement and sample communication in real situation.
According to me, sample communication covers a wide range of possibilities because students have to enter many different situations. Moreover, it can help students to achieve maximum communication.
INRODUCTION Reason for choosing the topic: In fact, teaching and learning a language is a complex and long process as anyone who has tried will agree. One of the most important things is practising English themselves. In classroom, everyone knows you are a student and mistakes are allowed, but they should do extra exercise after school at home to improve their language. In this writing, I would like to recommend more practical ways of practising exercises after learning from class The purpose of language practice is to give students an opportunity to work themselves and understand well how to use subjects and verb agreement and sample communication in real situation. According to me, sample communication covers a wide range of possibilities because students have to enter many different situations. Moreover, it can help students to achieve maximum communication. Aim of the research: The aims of the research are to help students to improve their ability to do the GCSE examination. The subject of study: The subject of this study is the students at High School to learn more at home. Reasearch methodology: - Observing - Practising - Analysis - Checking Language practice for students CONTENTS EXPLAINATION EXERCISES ANSWER KEY Subject and verb agreement Subject-verb agreement means choosing the correct singular or plural verb after the subject - Singular and plural verbs - Singular and plural subjects - One of, a number of, every, there etc - Nouns with a plural form - Pair nouns - Group nouns - Number in the subject and object Sample communication - Apologies, excuses, and thanks - Requests, invitations and suggestions - Opinions, agreeing and disagreeing - Specific situations and special occasions Focus on exercises - Exercise on subject and verb agreement - Exercise on sample communication Keys to exerises - Keys to exercises on agreement - Keys to exercises on sample communication Language practice for students A. Ex: The house is empty The houses are empty 2. Singular and plural subjects It is usually easy to decide if a subject is singular or plural, but there are some points to note. Neither + S1 nor + S2 + V (S2) Either + S1 or + S2 + V (S2) Not only + S1 but also + S2 + V (S2) Oxford guide to English grammar (John Eastwood) 192, 194 Ex: Either you or he is right Ex: Either he or you are wrong Ex: Either they or I am right Ex: Neither he nor I am sad Ex: Neither she nor you are happy S1, together with + S2 + V (S1) S1, along with + S2 + S (S1) S1, with + S2+ V (S1) S1, as well as + S2+ V (S1) * A phrase of measurement takes a singular verb. Ex: Ten miles is too far to walk. Ex: Thirty pounds seems a reasonable price. - Here we are talking about the amount as a whole- a distance of ten miles, a sum of thirty pounds, not the individual miles or pounds. - Titles and names also take a singular verb when they refer to one thing. Ex: “Star Wars” was a very successful film. Ex: The Rose and Crown is that old pub by the river. - If phrase comes after the noun, the verb agrees with the first noun. Ex: The house between the two bungalows is empty. - A phrase or clause as subject taken a singular verb. Ex: Through the trees is the quickest way. Ex: Opening my presents was exciting. - Even if he subject comes after the verb, the verb agrees with the subject. Ex: A great attraction are the antique shops in the old part of the town.
